Scripts and Add-ons

This page provides training on some very valuable Google scripts that lend efficiency and ease to to your assignments and projects.  Doctopus, for example, gives teachers the ability to auto-generate, pre-share, and manage grading and feedback in Google Docs for group and individual projects. Flubaroo lets you easily grade assignments and do in-class assessments with just a few steps.

Flubaroo Overview

Flubaroo (pronounced floo-ba-roo)  is a Google Apps for Education integrated tool that enables quick and easy grading of online assignments using Google Forms. 

It saves time by allowing teachers to instantly grade homework assignments, tests and quizzes, or to run in-class assessments.

More than just a grading tool, Flubaroo also:
  • Computes average assignment score.
  • Computes average score per question, and flags low-scoring questions.
  • Shows you a grade distribution graph.
  • Gives you the option to email each student their grade, and an answer key.
  • Lets you send individualized feedback to each student.

gClassFolders (only available as a script in the old Google Sheets)

This script sets up folders for each of your students/classes. You can drop files into it that the students can edit or view.  It will also set up a individual student folder where they will share documents directly with the teacher.  You can also run Autocrat, Doctopus, and pageMeister through this sheet/script.  

This is an essential script if your students are using Google Apps For Education.  This automatically sets up a folder system where teachers can drop any type of google doc to students, to view or to edit, and it sets up an individual folder for the student to submit work back to the teacher.

You will also use the spreadsheet as your master class roster when using Doctopus, pageMeister, and Autocrat

Doctopus is a Google Spreadsheet script developed by Andrew Stillman that can help teachers manage the flow of shared work in in their Google Drive accounts. 

The basic concept behind the script is to enable teachers to quickly share documents with all of the students on a roster, monitor usage of shared documents, and give students feedback within that roster spreadsheet.

To install, open your spreadsheet, click on tools>Script Gallery. Search for Doctopus and it will pop up for you.

Goobric for Doctopus (available as an add-on in new Google Sheets)

One of the features in Doctopus is Goobric, which  attaches a rubric created in google forms to a document that you sent to students with Doctopus.  It allows you to grade any assignment sent out with Doctopus and it will then attach the rubric to the document and send an email with the rubric to the student.

Then you can send personalized emails to students and they will be able to find the rubric on the bottom of their document.

Doublecheck your need, and then go to this link to download goobric if it is not already attached to your toolbar in Chrome. 

FormMule (only available as a script in the old Google Sheets)

FormMule is script that is useful for automating lookups, emails and calendar events created dynamically from Google Forms. Using formMule,  educators can automate targeted emails and calendar appointments to loop in the right people around regular occurrences such as behavior incidents, absences at attendance and at after-school tutoring.

To install, open your spreadsheet, click on tools>Script Gallery. Search for FormMule and it will pop up for you. 

AutoCrat (available as an add-on in new Google Sheets)

The autoCrat Script was written to be a multi-purpose document merge tool that allows you to take any personalized, row-based spreadsheet data and create, save, attach to email, and share templated documents.  

Called on one web page, "The greatest mail Google Mail Merge Script of all Time," this is an easy to use script that is helpful for many different people in your building. 

It is important to know that you need to set up a template letter before you run this script from the spreadsheet attached to your form. 

First, create the letter you want to send to your form-takers. In that letter include keywords to represent the data you want to include from the form and make it look like an html tag using double carats to bracket it.. (<<name>>)

Once your form letter is complete, you are ready to run the script using your form/questionnaire. 

To install, open your form response spreadsheet, click on tools>Script Gallery. Search for Autocrat and it will pop up for you.
